Birthday Girl!

Yesterday was Emily's birthday. I can't believe she's already two. She is such a big girl. She's talking in full sentances now and is so independent. We get a good laugh out of her everyday with the cute things she says. She is such a happy little girl and we just love her. Since it was her day yesterday we spent the morning building castles with her blocks, reading stories, and playing princess. We dressed Emily in a pretty dress, put on her jewelry and her crown, and some of her new play makeup. When she was all ready we went to a "ball" and she danced and twirled in her dress. Then we had a princess lunch using her play dishes and sat at her table and chairs. She loved all the attention. We finished the day off at Grandma & Grandpa Newman's with all the cousins. They went swimming, had pizza, and jumped on the tramp. What more could a two year old want?

Last Saturday we had a little birthday party for Emily & her cousin Jackson (who's 5 days older). Emily had a blast swimming and going down Grandma's slide. She loved it when we sang Happy Birthday and couldn't wait to blow out the candle. Jackson wasn't quite quick enough and she blew out his too. They are such cute little kids. Happy Birthday Jackson & Emily!

A Very Long Week = A Very Long Post

Shortly after Jeff’s party I came down with a bad cold – which I’m just now starting to get over. The rest of the week was full of Jeff and Emily both getting a stomach bug and lots of weddings. Between taking care of a sick husband and two year-old (which at times were practically the same thing) and running around town picking up, arranging, and delivering flowers, I’m exhausted.

Remind me not to do two weddings in a week again.

On a more positive note, we decided that we couldn’t hold off Emily’s excitement any longer and gave her her birthday present early. About a week ago Jeff and his dad put together Emily’s toddler bed. She’s been in heaven ever since. While they were putting it together she kept hugging the footboard. Then as soon as it was all the way done she kept hugging the mattress and sheets. She just loves her “big girl bed.” I think we timed it well since we haven’t had problems with her refusing to stay in it at night or for her naps. In fact, I’ve had a hard time getting her out of bed. I can’t believe how grown up she is.

Emily also had corn on the cob for the first time – and LOVED it! She actually ate the whole thing.

Brad and Heather also came into town and Emily was reunited with Ella for a few days. They had a lot of fun together and we’re looking forward to seeing them again. Unfortunately it won’t be for another six months. But we figure by then Ella will be walking and probably won’t take Emily’s crap anymore - or as much of it at least.

Happy Birthday!

Yesterday was Jeff's 30th birthday. He spent the morning and afternoon sleeping in, visiting some friends and running a couple of errands. Later that night we went out to eat before "dropping Emily off" so we could go out. Actually, I had planned a surprise party for him at his parents house. He truly was surprised and I want to thank all of you for cooperating. I was so worried that we'd pull up to his parents house and someone would have shown up late and be walking up the driveway. So thank you for not ruining all of my weeks of secretive planning. It was fun to see everyone and to have a reason to get together. Although I for one am really glad it's over and I don't have keep any more secrets from my husband.

Thank you to all of you who came and wished Jeff a happy birthday. Thank you to Jeff's parents for letting us use your house (again), thank you to all of you who helped with the food, thank you to my dear friend Cary Ann for coming to support Jeff even though it was her birthday too, and thank you to my sister Jenny and her husband Ryan for also coming even though it was your 10 year anniversary.

Welcome to the Bahamas!

We’re back. We had a very relaxing and fun trip to the Bahamas. We enjoyed being with all of Jeff’s family and touring the islands. The weather cooperated for the most part and we were all able to get plenty of sun. Jeff and I also got a lot of reading time in and I’m grateful that Jeff’s parents thought to bring extra books since apparently two weren’t enough for me. It’s amazing how enjoyable a 5 hour flight is when you aren’t entertaining a two year old. Thank you Dave & Arline for the wonderful vacation! It was a great week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (although we were glad to be home with Emily again).
